VanderJazz4 brings a laid-back and lovely night of live jazz to Spirit of Pella’s Fab Foodie Friday on August 14 — and this is a set list worth showing up for.
The quartet digs deep into the jazz canon with hard bop gems like Blue Monk, Song for My Father, Stella by Starlight, and Up Jumped Spring, while the Great American Songbook is represented beautifully with My Funny Valentine, All the Things You Are, Autumn Leaves, and Days of Wine and Roses. A warm Brazilian undercurrent flows through the evening via Girl from Ipanema, Desafinado, Corcovado, and Meditation.
Gorgeous ballads, joyful swingers like Jersey Bounce and Shiny Stockings, and crowd favorites like What a Wonderful World and Isn’t She Lovely round out a set that has something for everyone — from first-time jazz listeners to seasoned fans.
